Grade 6 Open House

On August 29th we will be hosting a grade 6 open house from 12pm – 2pm.  It is a come and go event.  Students will be given a lock and have the ability to visit the school before they begin the following week.

Staggered Entry

On September 3rd grade 6 students ONLY will start for their first day.  They will meet their teachers, get their lockers, and have a chance to experience their first day of grade 6.  Grade 7 & 8 students do not attend school this day.

On September 4th we will have our grade 7 & 8 students ONLY for the day.  They will meet with their teachers and get set up for the year.  PLEASE NOTE: that is a Wednesday and school will end at 2pm. Grade 6 students do not attend school this day.

On September 5th all students will begin their regular schedules.

Time Table

Our school hours are NOT changing for next year.  Our warning bell will ring at 7:55 in the morning and classes begin at 8am.  We will however be starting everyday with DEAR time (Drop Everything And Read). 

We will end at 2:50pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.  Wednesday will always be early dismissal at 2:00pm.  Fridays will end at 11:40am.  Please see the attached timetable for reference.

REGISTRATION TIMELINE:

  •  Friday, March 22nd – All families with current grade 5 students designated for GPMS for the fall will be emailed a registration form to submit electronically by Thursday, April 11th . If you have any issues with this process, please contact our office at 403-329-0125. This is only the registration form stage – see below for option course selection and other information. Please complete all areas of information on the registration form so our records are complete.
  • April 26th – We will be emailing out option course selection information to families. The selection of option preferences will take place electronically later at your child’s school with their grade 5 teacher.
  • April 9, 10, 11, and 18th – Our Band teacher, Ms. Lewis, will be visiting different schools and introducing instruments and her program so students and parents can make informed choices in May.
  • April 15th-25th – We will be visiting students from the grade 5 classes at our five feeder schools to answer general questions about middle school, options, the selection process and welcome them to Paterson.
  • May 2nd-15th – Students will be indicating their option preferences electronically through PowerSchool with their grade 5 teachers using the option form that they have worked through with their parents. This is not a first come, first serve process so do not worry if you are not on day one.
  • Thursday May 23rd – Gilbert Paterson Open House – We will be having an open house on this evening for students and parents to come and see our school and meet us. There will be tours, displays and staff on hand to meet you and answer questions. It is a drop-in evening between 6:30-7:30PM.
  • Late June TBD – Grade 5 students will come over to Paterson for orientation visits with their class during the school day for another chance to see our school and meet our staff.
  • Tuesday, June 25 - 6:00-7:00pm - Grade 5 Band Parent Meeting and Instrument Rental Night - Gilbert Paterson Band Room.  More information will be sent to parents and guardians.
  • Week before first day of school – Prior to the start of school, we will host an Open House to have gr. 6 students receive their locks, acclimate to our school and get ready for the new year. More details will be sent out at the end of this school year.

2024-2025 Registrations for designated grade 6s or current Gilbert Paterson Middle School Students

Registration forms for students are mandatory for each school year as per Alberta Education so it is important that you complete this process.

Digital registration forms will be emailed out on, March 22nd. Please watch your email for a “Student Registrations” email and keep a close eye on your junk folder as these digital forms sometimes end up there. The registration will be sent to Priority 1 contact.

Completed digital registrations are due on April 11th If you do not see the email in your inbox or junk folder, please contact the office at (403) 329-0125

This information is necessary for class lists, student placements and staffing. We encourage you to complete this form early so we have all information needed for these processes.
