Social Media presentation link and other school information
Dear Parents / Guardians,
We are always looking at ways to increase awareness and education around social media use and creating a healthy balance and on-line presence for our students. On Tuesday November 9th, GPMS and our other Division Middle Schools will have a common student and parent presentation from Ted Emmett regarding social media trends and challenges. The student presentation will focus on making healthy, positive choices with technology and social media and will take place during the day via Zoom in each classroom at our schools. The corresponding parent session is open to all Division parents to access and will look at parental challenges and strategies in navigating technology with their children. The parent evening Zoom meeting will take place from 6:30-8:00 PM and the link is below.
Ted Emmett has been the Coordinator of Marketing and Communications for Hockey Alberta for over six years, specializing in social media and digital media, and also hosts Hockey Alberta's bi-weekly podcast. Combined with his prior career in broadcasting as a news and sports writer/announcer, he brings over 10 years experience of working in sport and media. As a freelance entrepreneur, he has also been in charge of social media for a number of businesses and organizations, include the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League. He has also spent the last five years speaking to athletes, coaches, students, and parents across Alberta about social media, in an effort to educate all those involved on best practices, and encourage proper use. In addition to his public speaking appearances, Ted is also an active emcee and host in Central Alberta, and hosts/produces a Red Deer-centric podcast with his friends to engage the community.

Other information for Friday Nov. 5:
- Our Paterson Virtual Remembrance Day Assembly will be available on our YouTube channel on Wednesday November 10th. The link will be on the website for families to watch. Students will all watch the assembly as a school on Wednesday at 10:30AM.
- Reminder – there is no school on Thursday November 11th (Remembrance Day) and Friday November 12th (Division Non-operational day).
- Basketball start up camp information will be sent out on Monday November 8th and will also be available on the website. Next week, students will have announcements and posters in the school with times and dates for each grade level. Camps begin on Monday November 15th.
