GPMS YEAR END MESSAGE

JUNE 28, 2022

Dear Parents / Guardians,

The end of the year is now upon us. It was punctuated by our Grade 8 Farewell yesterday afternoon and our final grade 7/8 exams this morning. It was awesome to have everyone back for a full Farewell celebration and we really appreciate the efforts of staff, students and parent volunteers to make it a special day. As we wrap up the year, please note a few items:

  • Final marks and ongoing comments are available on PowerSchool starting Wednesday June 29th at 10AM. Please note that the final exam mark can be found in the course gradebook section of each core class for grades 7 and 8. Grade 6 PAT exams do not figure into final marks and are not reported on PowerSchool. Parents receive a summary of their child’s PAT results in the fall issued by the province and made available by the school.
  • Please be sure your child has returned any textbooks or library books to the school. If you find any over the summer, we would appreciate their return at your convenience. Unreturned resources that are signed out to students will be charge to Schoolcash Online accounts.
  • Our office opens for next year on August 18th. School begins after the long weekend for students with a staggered entry again this year. Only Grade 6 start on Tuesday Sept. 6th. Only Grade 7/8 students attend on Wednesday Sept. 7th and all students start regular classes on Thursday Sept. 8th.
  • There is a Grade 6 Open House for students and parents on Thursday September 1st from 12:00-2:00PM. More information and reminders of start up activities and dates will be sent home and on the website in mid August.

Finally, we would like to extend a fond farewell and best wishes to all grade 8 students and families that are leaving us this year. We would also like to thank all students and families for an excellent 2021-22 school year as you once again showed the ability to adapt and flourish within the challenges and changes that this school year brought. We are excited to see the fresh, new faces of our incoming grade 6’s in the fall. I think we all finish this year with hope, thanks and optimism that we are now fully able to experience the types of learning, socialization, activities and engagement that make the middle school years exciting and fulfilling for all. We look forward to starting a new school year in this manner. That being said, we are all excited first for a summer that brings opportunities to connect, explore and recharge in ways that we have not experienced over the past two years. On behalf of the staff of Gilbert Paterson Middle School, I wish you and your family a safe and wonderful summer break!

Sincerely,

Darryl Christiansen - Principal
