Badminton Information
Please check out the TRYOUTS SCHEDULE for tryout times for our badminton teams. Tryouts will start on Feb. 28th for grade 8, March 1st for grade 7, and March 4th for grade 6. Each grade level has a boys and girls team that consists of 8 players as each school is allowed to send 8 players to the LSAA Championship in singles, doubles and mixed doubles play. As per the tryout poster, there will be 2 tryouts for each grade level team. Once teams are selected, they will practice 2 times per week throughout March and early April and will have 2-3 tournaments, including the LSAA Championships the week before Easter as follows:
- Monday April 11 – grade 6 tournament (practices Wed and Friday)
- Tuesday April 12 – grade 7 tournament (practices Tuesday and Thursday)
- Wednesday April 13 – grade 8 tournament (practices Monday and Wednesday)
It is crucial that your child be able to practice these days and attend this tournament if they wish to play on a school team. For students who do not make one of the teams, there will be club badminton once a week which will afford the opportunity to come out and play with friends and others who want to continue to have a chance to play some fun badminton. The following staff are coaching our grade level teams:
Grade 6 – Mr. Lam and Mr. Mansbridge
Grade 7 – Mr. Palmer and Mr. Gamble
Grade 8 – Mr. Wood and Mr. Usman
If your child has any questions, please have them see the coaches or ask their PE teacher. Please note that students do not need their own racquet to tryout or play on a team but are welcome and encouraged to bring their own if they have one.
