Oki! My name is Cheryl Smith and I am the Family School Liaison Counsellor at Gilbert Paterson Middle School. Welcome to middle school!!!! My hope is that you continue to get to know and LOVE one of the most important people in the building- YOU! Middle school can get a bad rep for being a tricky time in our life (ALL those hormones!), BUT it is the coolest time to learn more about yourself, what you like, don’t like, what you want to stand up for and what is worth giving up. Let’s figure out what you want to make of this one wild life you’ve been given.

My role within the school is to work with students, and their family, who are being impacted by mental health concerns, stress, or require support for essential needs. My goal is to link families to the long-term natural & community supports and resources that can help families meet with long-term success. I work on the philosophy of System's Theory; none of us live in a bubble and our physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs are impacted, enriched, and limited by our environment and resources.

My areas of interest include working through anxiety, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and at-risk & high-risk youth. In a World filled with choices, options, and advertising, know that your body and mind have powerful tools within them that can help you; let’s find YOUR tools!

-----BE WHO YOU NEEDED WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER-----

At Gilbert Paterson, we acknowledge that we learn, grow, and play on the traditional Treaty 7 Territory of the Blackfoot Nations, including Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai, the Tsuut’ina Nation and Stoney Nakoda First Nations, as well as the many First Nations, Metis, and Inuit whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries
